Spec
Spec is Parcel's assistant. It reads your workspace, proposes actions, and waits for your approval before it changes anything.
Spec is an assistant that works inside your Parcel workspace. It can read your accounts, contacts, projects, and signals, summarize what it finds, and propose changes. It does not change anything on its own: every write waits for a person.
Spec is off by default for every workspace. Nothing on these pages happens in your workspace until Spec is turned on for it.
Where Spec lives
Two surfaces, one conversation history.
- Full page. A dedicated Spec destination with your conversation list, the message thread, and the context you have attached.
- Follow mode. A side panel that stays with you while you work. The panel opens beside the page you are on, keeps its own width, and collapses to a sheet on a narrow screen so the page you were reading stays usable.
Both surfaces read and write the same conversations. Switching between them loses nothing.
Context
Spec starts each conversation with the record you were looking at. You can add more, and you can take things away.
- Remove. Any attached record can be removed from the conversation. Spec stops seeing it from that point forward.
- Pin. A pinned record stays attached as the conversation grows, so a long thread does not drift away from the thing it is about.
Context is per conversation. Nothing you attach in one conversation appears in another.
Models
Spec runs on two model configurations, and the composer tells you which one a message used.
| Label | Used for |
|---|---|
Spec 1.0 | ordinary conversation |
Spec 1.0 fast | short internal work such as naming a conversation, routing a tool call, or compacting a long thread |
The two configurations bill at different rates, which is why a long conversation and a short one can cost different amounts for the same number of messages. See Credits and billing.
Actions and approval
Spec can propose an action, such as updating a field on an account. It cannot perform one until you decide.
- Approve once. The action runs, and the next one asks again.
- Deny. The action does not run, and Spec is told so and continues.
- Stale target. If the record changed between the proposal and your decision, Spec refuses the action rather than applying it to something it did not read. You will be asked again against the current record.
An approval that is never answered expires on its own. An expired approval is recorded as expired; it never quietly becomes an approval.
Who can use Spec
Access is a plan question and a seat question, and both are answered on Credits and billing.
What Spec never does
- It never sends your conversation content to another member. A conversation belongs to the member who created it.
- It never gives an administrator a way to read a conversation. Administrators can see that work happened and can delete it; they cannot open it.
- It never writes to a connected system without an approval.
- It never reaches a system your workspace has not connected.
